Browser extension

Add the SQDM extension to Chrome, Edge, Brave or Firefox, and choose which downloads it takes over.

The extension sends downloads from your browser to SQDM, with the page’s cookies and referrer, so links that need a login work too. If SQDM isn’t running, the browser downloads as usual.

Add it

The extension files come with the app. Browsers only let you add extensions that aren’t in their store yourself, so it takes a minute:

  1. In SQDM, open Help → Add Browser Extension… (it also opens once after the welcome setup).
  2. Pick your browser. For Chrome, Edge and Brave:
    • Copy the extensions address SQDM shows and paste it into the address bar:

      chrome://extensions

    • Turn on Developer mode.

    • Click Load unpacked and choose the chrome folder that Show extension folder opens.

  3. Pin SQDM from the puzzle-piece menu, click it and enter the 6-digit code SQDM shows. See Pairing.

Firefox: open about:debugging, choose This Firefox → Load Temporary Add-on… and pick manifest.json in the firefox folder. Firefox removes it when it restarts, until SQDM is listed on Firefox Add-ons.

Which downloads it takes

By default it takes archives, installers, disk images, video, audio and office documents — and leaves everything else to the browser. Change the list, or add a minimum size, in the extension’s popup and in Preferences → Browser integration.

Other things it does

  • Right-click a link, image, audio or video: Download with SQDM. On a page: Download all links with SQDM.
  • A small download button appears on direct video and audio files. It never touches DRM-protected or streaming-site video.
  • Save with browser (skip SQDM) in the right-click menu, and Let the browser take the next download in the popup, for one-off exceptions.
  • Magnet links open in SQDM when torrents are turned on.

When it hands a download back

The extension lets the browser keep a download when SQDM isn’t running, when the disk SQDM saves to is too full for the file, or when the download folder can’t be written to. The popup shows why.
