Network bonding
Download one file over two networks at once — broadband plus a phone hotspot, or two providers.
With bonding on, parts of the same file go over several network connections. SQDM weighs each by its measured speed and moves parts away from a network that drops.
Turn it on
- Connect the second network (a phone hotspot over Wi-Fi or USB, a second Ethernet adapter…).
- Preferences → Multi-network (under Advanced): turn on bonding and tick the networks SQDM may use. Optionally cap one of them.
- Start a download. The details pane and the status bar show the speed per network; the segment bar colours parts by network.
How it decides
- Networks are found automatically and re-checked every 10 seconds, each with a small test request.
- Parts are shared out by throughput, with a floor so a slow network keeps being tried. The split is re-balanced every few seconds.
- If a network stops delivering, its unfinished parts move to the others. Nothing restarts.
Per system
macOS and Windows: SQDM binds each connection to the chosen network. Most setups route that correctly.
When it can’t: some systems send traffic by destination and ignore the chosen network (on Linux, for example, without policy routing). SQDM’s health check notices and says so in the network list — it never silently uses only one network while claiming two.
Torrents never use bonding. The feature is off by default.
