After-download rules
Extract, scan, move, rename or run a command automatically when a download finishes.
Rules live in Preferences → Automation (under Advanced). Each rule has a condition and a list of actions that run in order after a download (and its checksum check) finish. The details pane’s Actions tab shows what ran and its output.
Conditions
Match by category (Video, Compressed…), file extension, site (domain) or size.
Actions
| Action | What it does |
|---|---|
| Extract | ZIP built in. 7z and RAR through 7-Zip, if installed. Into a subfolder; optionally delete the archive. |
| Virus scan | ClamAV on macOS, Microsoft Defender on Windows. A threat is moved to ~/.mydm/quarantine and the download is marked. |
| Move | To another folder. |
| Rename | By pattern: {name}, {date}, {domain}, {category}. |
| Run command | Your own program with arguments. |
Run command safely
- Off by default; turning it on asks for confirmation.
- The program runs directly — never through a shell — with a timeout, and its output goes to the log.
Needs
- Scan on macOS: ClamAV, for example
brew install clamav. Without a scanner the action reports “no scanner available”. - 7z / RAR: 7-Zip. Without it the action reports “not installed”.
