Getting started
Install SQDM, add your first download, and find where files go.
SQDM is a download manager for macOS and Windows. It downloads each file over several connections at once, keeps every download resumable, and hands off browser downloads through an extension.
Install
- Download SQDM from the Download page — a
.dmgfor macOS (Apple silicon and Intel), an.exeinstaller for Windows. - macOS: open the
.dmgand drag SQDM to Applications. Windows: run the installer; it installs for your user only, no administrator password. - Open SQDM. The first time, your browser also opens at
http://127.0.0.1:9614— the same app, already connected.
The current builds are not code-signed. See Troubleshooting if your system refuses to open it.
Your first download
- Press Add URL (⌘N on macOS, Ctrl+N on Windows).
- Paste a link. SQDM checks it before anything starts and shows the file name, size and whether the server lets it resume.
- Choose a folder or keep the suggested one, then Start download.
You can also paste a link anywhere in the window, or drop one onto it.
Where files go
By default: Downloads/SQDM, sorted by type into Video, Music, Documents, Compressed, Programs and Other. Change the folders in Preferences → Folders. While downloading, a file is called name.mydm.part; it gets its real name when it finishes.
Connections
New downloads start with 8 connections. SQDM adds more while the total speed keeps rising and removes them if the server objects, up to the maximum you set (default 32). It remembers, per site, what worked.
The welcome setup
On first start SQDM asks for your download folder, the number of connections and how many files may download at once, and offers to start at login. Everything can be changed later in Preferences.
